Level of demand for berthing superyachts is worldwide and especially on the French Riviera very high. According to a 2011 Camper & Nicholsons research in term of where superyachts wants to be based, the Mediterranean is the most popular region for cruising superyachts and homeports, with over 60 percent of superyachts having their base there. The Mediterranean is followed in popularity by Florida and the Caribbean which have a combined total of 121 marinas.

Since 2006, as the fleet of super yachts ( from 30m  length and up) has grown so too the numbers of super yacht moorings in the world has been climbing. This is presumably due to the increased numbers of marinas being opened in response to demand and  the potential of the marina's business and the expansion of the existing facilities for the same reasons. Italy dominates with the largest numbers of superyacht marinas ( 78), followed by the South of France & Monaco and Spain (35).
